To people in nearly every culture known to man, music has been not only a popular pastime but an intrinsic part of their way of life. Experts are fairly convinced that we have had a deep-rooted love affair with music since the very origins of humankind itself, with evidence suggesting a very primitive form of music was common as far back as 40-50,000 BC (long before humans migrated from Africa and dispersed around the globe).

Obviously we can only guess what music back then sounded like, but since music first started being scored and subsequently recorded in the latter half of the 19th century, we can look back on a wealth of musical history.
