Tiered Home Theater Seating

Tiered theater seating arrives with an 8-inch riser platform already built into the base, which means a genuine elevated back row without framing, decking, or a finishing carpenter. Four Octane Seating collections carry the design, each with power recline standard and wall hugger clearance held at 4 inches despite the added height. If your sightlines call for a different rise, standalone riser platforms come in 7.75-inch and 14.5-inch heights to build the layout yourself.

An Elevated Back Row Without the Build

Tiered seating solves one problem, which is that the second row cannot see over the first. There are two ways to solve it: buy seating with the rise engineered in, or build a platform and put standard seating on top. This page covers the first approach, and explains when the second still makes more sense.

Integrated Riser Built In vs Site Built The Collections Planning the Rows Why Buy Here

How the Integrated Riser Works

The 8-inch platform is part of the seat base, engineered and tested as a single unit with the frame and the recline mechanism. Nothing gets bolted together on site, and there is no load-rating question about what the seating is standing on, because the seating and the platform are the same object.

The added height also does not cost you depth. Wall hugger clearance stays at 4 inches, since the seat travels forward as it reclines rather than tipping the back into the wall behind it. Power recline is standard across every model, which matters more than usual on an elevated seat where reaching down for a manual lever is awkward. Each seat also keeps its accessory dock for tray tables and cup holders.

Built-In Riser or a Site-Built Platform

Built-In Riser Seating

  • Fixed 8-inch rise, engineered with the frame
  • No construction, framing, or finishing work
  • Ships and installs as one piece per seat
  • Best when 8 inches clears your sightlines

Standalone Riser Platforms

  • Available in 7.75-inch and 14.5-inch heights
  • Works under seating you already own
  • Mix heights across a three-row layout
  • Best when you need more than 8 inches of rise

Browse standalone riser platforms if the second column describes your room better.

The Four Tiered Collections

  • Turbo XL700. Power recline with cooling gel-infused memory foam over a high-density core.
  • Flex HR. Adds a power headrest, with a diamond-stitch pattern across the seat back.
  • Azure LHR. Power headrest plus power lumbar, one of the more configurable recline systems in the range.
  • Bliss LHR Massage. Everything on the Azure plus a full heat and massage system.

All four share the same 8-inch riser, the same 4-inch wall clearance, and blue LED lighted cup holders with a USB port on the power switch. The differences are entirely in the recline and wellness systems.

Planning the Rows

Row depth compounds faster than most people expect once you pass two rows, and the riser changes elevation rather than footprint, so a raised second row needs roughly the same legroom as a ground-level one. Work out the spacing with our theater seating layout and distance calculator before you settle on a seat count.

The other thing to check early is the path into the room. If the seating has to travel a hallway or stairwell to reach the back of the space, confirm your clearances against our standard interior door sizes guide first.
