Curved Theater Seating
Curved theater seating solves a problem straight rows cannot: in a straight row, the end seats look across the screen rather than at it. A curved row angles every chair toward the center, so the person on the end gets the same picture as the person in the middle. The curve comes from wedge-shaped armrests between the seats, not from altering the chairs themselves, which means you keep the same seat width, the same recline and the same features. We stock 85 curved home theater seats from Octane, Palliser, Bass and Acoustic Innovations, in rows of three to six, from $549 per seat, with free nationwide in-home delivery.

Is Curved Theater Seating Right for Your Room?
A curved row is not automatically better than a straight one. It is better in specific rooms, and worse in others. Here is how to tell which you have.
How It Works Curved vs Straight Room Layout Row Sizes Collections
How Curved Theater Seating Works
The curve does not come from the chairs. Every seat in a curved row is the same seat you would get in a straight row, with the same width, the same recline and the same features. What changes is the armrest between them: instead of a rectangular arm, a curved configuration uses a wedge-shaped arm that is wider at the back than the front. Each wedge rotates the next seat a few degrees inward, and across a row of four or five those degrees add up to a shallow arc.
Two things follow from that. First, a curved row takes more width than a straight row of the same seat count, because the wedges add inches at the back. Second, you are not compromising on the chair itself to get the curve, so power recline, power headrests and lumbar, heat and massage, cup holders and arm storage are all still on the table.
Curved vs. Straight Rows
Choose curved when your room is wider than it is deep, when the row is four seats or more, or when the screen is close enough that end seats would otherwise be looking at it from an angle. The wider the row and the nearer the screen, the more the curve matters. It is also the more comfortable choice socially, since a shallow arc lets people at opposite ends actually see each other.
Choose straight when the room is narrow, when you are fitting a row against a wall and every inch of width counts, or when you are building two rows and want the back row on a riser directly behind the front. Straight rows are also easier to combine with wall hugger placement in a tight space.
A middle option worth knowing about: many collections offer a center loveseat layout where the two middle positions share a seat without a divider. Combined with a curve, that gives you the best view in the room for two people.
Planning Your Home Theater Seating Layout
Curved seating is a layout decision, so it is worth working through the room as a whole before choosing a row.
- Measure the usable width first. Wall to wall, minus walkways. Remember a curved row needs more width than the same number of straight seats. Our room measuring guide covers what to record.
- Check your recline depth. Every seat needs clearance in front for the footrest and, unless it is a wall hugger, behind for the back.
- Decide on one row or two. If two, the front row is the one to curve. Read seating layouts for multiple viewers if you are undecided.
- Sort out riser height early. Second row sightlines depend on it. See the riser planning guide, then browse risers, tiered platforms or built-on riser seating that arrives already mounted.
- Think about access. Flip-up arms make it easier to get in and out of the middle of a long curved row.

Curved Row Sizes
- Three seats is the smallest row where a curve does anything noticeable. Below three, build straight.
- Four seats is the most popular curved configuration and the point where end-seat viewing angles start to matter.
- Five and six seats are where curving stops being optional. In a straight six, the outer seats have a genuinely poor view.
